Lumberyard excursion

Rolf gave us, (Frode and Omar) a long list of tasks to finish in his absence. He is over the Pond participating in a job related course. So far progress has been slow, we must admit, but yesterday was a productive day. We went to the lumberyard and found some timber suitable for strips.

The saw issue has to be on the agenda again tough. Should we use a circle saw, or should we use our table saw? Anyone with experience out there? Those we spoked to yesterday about this, had the opinion that we should use the table saw for this job, as it would be easier to cut long lengths and get the right thickness. We might have to run some tests since we need a lot of strips.

The missing link, profile number 160, will be cut on wednesday. And not to many burgers now Rolf!

I'd use the table saw for any long cuts like that. Add a feather board (you can make it yourself and use clamps to fasten it to the table saw top) to hold the wood tight to the fence. Use a stick of wood to push the wood stock through for the last 30cm or so (so you don't cut your fingers off). Use a thin kerf blade if you can get one (wastes less wood). Lastly, that looks like a portable table saw, you might want to be sure that it's solidly mounted befo r you start pushing material through it.

good luck

Long list?? What do you mean Omar ;-)

Seriously, we have discussed the table saw issue to death and I tought we had agreed to try Bjørns method with the handheld circular saw? Less setup, less handling, less risk of breaking planks, less tuning while ripping etc.. If it dont work out after a couple of test strips, then we would go for the table saw Trond offered us to borrow (at the school).
We should definately get a kerf blade like Pat said.

Did you buy some lumber, and if you did, did you compare weight between planks? We want fast grown spruce (the lightest).

Boy do I look forward to coming home!

You understood what Phill wrote on how to do station 160? Frode sounded a bit confused in his last e-mail..

I have not touched a hamburger since I came here. But healthy food is an issue, especially while staying at an hotel.. I think I might have to consider a diet when I get back home, but I'll let the scales on the bathroom decide.

Howdy!
Don`t think I have seen the mail from Phill??? Meaning there`s no drawing waiting for me in the garage? I want to cut the missing part on wedenesday.

Don`t know if we got the right material? Frode and me tried our best to buy the nicest looking plank we could find. We bought 3 planks that looked and felt right.

Got to go now. Work calls!
Take care!
